Greetings …

23rd October 2018 — 60 Comments

… to all my friends, subscribers and those who have wished me well. I stopped posting my blog when the cancer pain became unbearable. I had other things to think about but now, with the help of morphine and other drugs, I feel much better.

Alas. I have nothing new to say. The Muse has left me and until the situation improves further, that is how it will remain. Sorry.

Thank you to the NHS and all the other agencies who have helped me through a difficult time. I am at present attending the Florence Nightingale Hospice Out-Patients Day Care Unit at the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury. Keeps me going …

John

  33. So sorry to hear of your problems John. My thoughts are with you in this fight.

  34. Crikey John, that came as quite a shock to learn that you were/are so unwell and under ‘the cosh’ so to speak. I too have been there (to some lesser degree) so I well understand the crap you are having to deal with just now.

The only advice I can offer is to do as you are bloody-well told and do try to keep your ‘pecker-up’ (whatever that means).

With much love and best wishes.

    Roy

  52. John I’m delighted to see another scribbling from you, but even more delighted that you seem to have found some effective pain relief.

I know through my own family experiences of the wonders of our hard working NHS, and other cancer groups. They do an amazing job and we’re so lucky to have them!

Keep us informed how things are coming along mate. And my very best wishes to you and your Family.

  53. Hello John, Just heard your news…Glad you are getting some good pain relief there.
‘The morphine will take over eventually, you know that right’
Have really enjoyed reading some of your amusing and informative articles over the years… i probably would not have remembered the Fred Archer pencil top finds of late if i had not read your article and it jogged my memory about Jim’s article previous Searcher article. .
    Good Bye
    Stuart

John (aka bugface on the CMD)

  55. Stay strong, John. We are all in your corner. God bless.

  56. Hi John, It’s great to hear from you, and that you have found some respite from the pain. I’m sorry that your muse has fallen silent at this moment in time. Like so many others, I too miss your scribblings, perhaps, like Homer you should call upon your particular Muse for inspiration “Sing to me of the man, Muse”. I hope that your recovery continues and that we hear from you again soon, good luck and my kindest regards.

  57. I came across your site while looking up the Robert Raikes centenary medal asi got one off a market stall last week exactly the same as yours. Thanks for the info on the medal — and for the gold standard distraction that is the other pages. Time well wasted, as they say.
I hope palliative care continues to allow you to do what you want to do for a long while.
with thanks for an excellent site and best wishes,
    Carol Harris

  58. It must be fifteen years since I first ‘met’ you John. Although we’ve not always seen eye to eye, but it’s not all been bad and I have valued some of your input. You are in my thoughts and have my very best wishes…
